สร้างขึ้นในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนกลางราวปี 2190 ชาวบ้านเรียก วัดสาลโคตร ต่อมากลายเป็นวัดร้างที่รู้จักกันในนาม วัดศาลาโค่น ราวปี 2515 ได้พบเศียรพระพุทธรูปเก่า บริเวณริมแม่น้ำหน้าวัด เรียกกันว่า หลวงพ่อเศียร เล่าลือกันว่ามีความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ ต่อมามีการสร้างองค์สรีระขึ้นแล้วนำเศียรพระ(เดิม) บรรจุภายใน ภายหลังพระธรรมปาโมกข์เห็นว่าชื่อวัดไม่มงคลจึงเปลี่ยนเป็นวัดศาลโคดม หมายถึง วัดของสมเด็จพระสมณโคดม ที่หน้าบันของโบสถ์ ปรากฏพระปรมาภิไธย ส.ก. ประดาฐานเป็นแห่งแรกของประเทศไทย อีกทั้งเป็นวัดเพียงแห่งเดียวที่สามารถลอดใต้พระประธานเพื่อปิดทองได้
