Wat Pha Phu Kon
Located in the Na Yung-Nam Som National Forest Reserve, Ban Na Kham Yai, Ban Kong Subdistrict, it is an area bordering three provinces: Udon Thani, Loei, and Nong Khai. It is a quiet and peaceful place suitable for meditation practice by monks of the Kammathana tradition. The Viharn, Sala Rai, and buildings surrounding the courtyard are designed with beautiful architecture.
About this Place
Interesting things inside the temple include:
The Viharn has a contemporary Ratanakosin Thai architectural style with entrances and exits on three sides. The principal Buddha image inside the Viharn is the âPhra Phuttha Saiyat Lokanat Satahamahamuni,â a reclining Buddha image depicting the Parinirvana, made of white marble. The Viharn's interior is elaborately decorated, incorporating the teachings of the Buddha. Around the inner walls of the Viharn are murals depicting the Buddha's life story and the Jataka tales.
Phra Pathom Rattana Buracharn Maha Chedi is a Sri Lankan-style stupa decorated with gold mosaic, situated on a hilltop within the temple. In front of the stupa is enshrined the principal Buddha image, âPhra Ruang Rungrogt Sri Burapha,â a standing Buddha image (in the gesture of forbidding fear) 4.5 meters tall. The topmost part of the stupa contains the Buddha's relics. Inside the second level of the stupa are marble carvings of the enlightened masters of the Kammathana tradition, and the lower level of the stupa houses the ashes and artifacts of the masters of the Kammathana tradition.
Open daily from 05:30 to 18:30. The Viharn doors open from 08:30 to 17:00.
