About this Place
History & Significance
Construction of the Sirindhorn Dam began in June 1968, with the foundation stone laid on February 2, 1969. King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously granted permission to name the dam after Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The dam and its initial power transmission system were completed in 1971, and the King officially inaugurated the dam on November 27, 1971. In November 1972, the dam was handed over to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), which manages it to this day.
