Rattanakosin 200 Years Bicentennial Suspension Bridge

History & Significance

The Rattanakosin 200 Years Bicentennial Suspension Bridge was constructed in 1982 (B.E. 2525) to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Rattanakosin Kingdom. Originally built to facilitate transportation and communication between the residents of Tak Municipality on the east bank and Pa Mamuang Subdistrict on the west bank of the Ping River, the bridge has since become an iconic historical symbol of the province.

Highlights & What to See

The bridge features a classic suspension design constructed with strong steel cables and a rustic wooden floor. While it was once open to light traffic, today it is strictly a pedestrian-only bridge, making it a safe and tranquil spot for a leisurely stroll. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Ping River, especially during sunset when the sky reflects beautifully on the water. Additionally, the bridge serves as the official starting and release point for the traditional 'Krathong Sai' during the annual Loi Krathong Sai Festival (Loi Krathong Sai Lai Prathip Phan Duang), where thousands of glittering coconut-shell krathongs are floated down the river in a breathtaking continuous line.

Visitor Information

The bridge is open daily to the public, and there is no admission fee. Visitors are welcome to walk across, take photographs, and enjoy the cool river breeze at any time of the day. Please note that motorized vehicles are strictly prohibited on the bridge to ensure pedestrian safety and preserve the wooden structure.

How to Get There

The suspension bridge spans the Ping River in the heart of Tak Province, connecting the main Tak Municipality area with Pa Mamuang Subdistrict. It is easily accessible by car or local transport from anywhere within Tak city center.
