Old City Wall (Nakhon Si Thammarat City Wall)

History & Significance

The Old City Wall was rebuilt following its original structure during the early Rattanakosin period. It stands as a testament to the long-standing historical importance of Nakhon Si Thammarat as an ancient southern city. Further restoration efforts took place in 1990 (B.E. 2533) and 2005 (B.E. 2548) to preserve the remaining brick ramparts and city moats for future generations.

Highlights & What to See

Key highlights of the Old City Wall site include:

• Eastern Wall Stretch: Restored in 1990, this section extends about 100 meters eastwards parallel to the city moat, starting from the northern Pratu Chai Fort (also known as Pratu Chai Sak).
• Western Wall Stretch: Restored in 2005, this section runs parallel to the western city moat for approximately 150 meters.
• Historic City Moat: A scenic moat area running alongside the remaining wall structure.
