King Naresuan the Great Shrine

King Naresuan the Great Shrine

About this Place

Located on Naresuan Road, Lam Phu Subdistrict, this shrine was built as a memorial to the time when King Naresuan the Great led his army to Nong Bua Lamphu Subdistrict in A.D. 1574 to assist the King of Hongsawadi in Sattanakhanahut (Vientiane). At that time, Thailand was a vassal of Hongsawadi, but King Naresuan the Great fell ill, so the King of Hongsawadi ordered the army to return to Ayutthaya. The site is located in the public park by Nong Bua Lake, in front of the Nong Bua Lamphu Mueang District Office. From January 25th to February 3rd each year, the province organizes a celebration and a ceremony to pay homage and offer respects to the spirit of King Naresuan the Great.
