Chiang Khan Walking Street (Chai Khong Road)
ถนนชายโขง
With a length of over 1,200 meters, the entire Chiang Khan Walking Street in Loei Province is filled with traces of the ancient charm and magic of past lifestyles. This is a rare sight today. Many food items, daily necessities, and souvenirs are packed and sold here.
About this Place
This road runs parallel to the Mekong River as it passes through the Chiang Khan Subdistrict Municipality. On both sides of the road are houses of the locals, most of which retain their characteristic two-story wooden architecture. Some of these have been converted into hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and souvenir shops. Along the walking street, there are alms-giving ceremonies with sticky rice, passed down from ancestors, and considered another unique way of life for the people of Chiang Khan. Tourists or those interested in participating can contact their accommodation to prepare sticky rice for them, or purchase it from vendors who set up tables for sale in the early morning hours along the walking street. The walking street is open daily from 4:00 PM onwards. The sticky rice alms-giving ceremony takes place in the morning from 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM.
