Located in Moo 5, Khin Nam Rai Subdistrict, it was originally named Wat Thayan, a corruption of the word Thai Yan. Legend has it that a wandering monk came across this abandoned temple and, seeing the area densely covered with banyan trees, told the villagers to change the temple's name to Wat Sai. It is presumed to have been built during the Ayutthaya period. This temple has a unique feature: it is a temple where the roots of a Bodhi tree have embraced the walls of the ubosot enshrining the principal Buddha image. The principal Buddha image was originally called Luang Por Khao or Luang Por Thayan, but is now called Luang Por Wat Sai. Locals recount that the principal Buddha image was originally a plaster statue covered with metal sheets. Later, enemy soldiers set a fire to melt off the gold, leaving only the plaster inside. The head of the Buddha image was cut off. The villagers then jointly raised funds to restore the head of the Buddha image.

The place where the sacred image is enshrined is an old ubosot, which the villagers call the "Ubosot Maha Ut" (Ubosot of great fortune). It is an ubosot with only one entrance and exit. It is said that someone once intended to renovate and repair the roof of the ubosot, but when they began work, lightning struck, and someone dreamt that the principal Buddha image enshrined in the ubosot instructed them not to build or alter anything. After that, no one has ever repaired the roof again. Since the restoration of the head of the principal Buddha image, the villagers in the vicinity have jointly made merit during the Songkran festival every year. Currently, the merit-making and bathing ceremony for the sacred image is held on April 16th each year.
