Wat Ratchaburana

Wat Ratchaburana

Located at the foot of Pa Than Bridge, opposite Wat Mahathat. It was ordered to be built in 1967 by King Borommarachathirat II (Chao Sam Phraya) at the site where his two elder brothers, Chao Ai Phraya and Chao Yi Phraya, who fought a duel to the death, were cremated. He also ordered the construction of two chedis in the area.

关于此景点

Wat Ratchaburana and Wat Mahathat were heavily damaged by fire when the Ayutthaya Kingdom fell. The remaining ruins indicate that the viharn and other parts of the temple were very grand. The Royal Viharn measured 63 meters long and 20 meters wide, with three sets of stairs leading up to the front. The viharn walls were designed with window openings. Today, the ruins of the viharn pillars and the base of the principal Buddha image remain. The central prang is in the early Ayutthaya style, influenced by Khmer architecture, which emphasized the prang as the temple's main structure. Each niche of the prang contains a standing Buddha image. The prang is decorated with stucco reliefs of Garuda, Yaksha, Devas, and Nagas, featuring beautiful patterns. Inside the prang, there are two levels of chambers that can be visited. The upper chamber contains faded murals, while the lower chamber, which used to store gold artifacts, features murals painted in red lacquer with gold leaf, depicting Buddha images in the walking and seated postures, as well as figures of deities and floral motifs. The ancient artifacts discovered in the prang of Wat Ratchaburana were made of gold, bronze, stone, earthenware, and gems. When the Fine Arts Department excavated and restored the prang of Wat Ratchaburana, the valuable artifacts were moved to the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum for safekeeping.
