History & Significance

Wat Phloi Sangwon Niran is located in Thong Saen Khan District, Uttaradit Province, a region historically known as a cultural transition zone blending Siam, Lanna, and Lan Xang cultures. The temple operates as a branch of Wat Na Luang (Aphinya Thesit Thamma). It serves as an important spiritual retreat and a center for Buddhist merit-making, attracting both locals and tourists seeking peace and blessings amidst nature.

Highlights & What to See

The main highlight of the temple is Phra Sara Sutthi Muninat, a massive Buddha statue in the Naga-prok posture (sheltered by a multi-headed serpent). This impressive statue measures 10 meters wide at the lap and stands 19 meters tall. It is surrounded by beautifully crafted sculptures of revered Phaya Naga (serpent deities), including Pu Thanamun Nakarach, Mae Ya Ket Pathum Nakhini, Luang Pu Mucharin (the serpent protector of the Buddha), and Phaya Dam Saen Siri Chantra Nakarach. Additionally, at the entrance gate, visitors are welcomed by a pair of facing dragon sculptures, built to bring auspicious blessings and sacred energy to all who enter.

Visitor Information
