Wat Chulamanee

Located on the eastern bank of the Nan River, about 5 kilometers south of Phitsanulok city along Borommatrailokkanat Road. This ancient site is presumed to predate the Sukhothai period and was also the location of the ancient Song Khwae city before it became the Phitsanulok of today. Furthermore, historical records state that King Borommatrailokkanat built the Viharn and entered monkhood at this temple in 2007 BE (1464 AD) for 8 months and 15 days, with 2,348 royal attendants ordaining alongside him. Within the temple, there are significant ancient structures worth visiting, including a small Khmer-style prang, measuring 11 meters wide and 18 meters long, constructed from laterite. The front is built in a trimuk style, standing on three stacked high bases. Each level features a twenty-angled corner, adorned with stucco decorations. The lower section includes a frieze and a lotus molding with swan motifs, similar to the prang at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat in Lopburi province. Nearby is a Mondop with a replica of the Buddha's footprint, ordered to be built by King Narai the Great. An inscription in front of the Mondop summarizes that in 2221 BE (1678 AD), King Narai the Great commanded that cloth used to trace the Buddha's footprint be carved onto a stone slab, to be preserved for people to worship henceforth.
