History & Significance

Established in 1933, Tao Hong Tai is one of the oldest ceramic factories in Ratchaburi Province. It originally gained fame by producing the traditional dragon-patterned water jars (known as "Ong Lai Mangkon"), which were highly popular among Thai households for collecting rainwater. Over the decades, these dragon jars became an iconic symbol of both the factory and Ratchaburi Province. In 2003, Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch and his father, the owners of Tao Hong Tai, expanded their artistic vision by purchasing an abandoned historic building on Woradech Road. They restored this late King Rama V-era Manila-style wooden house and officially opened it on February 4, 2011, as "Tao Hong Tai : d Kunst," the first contemporary art gallery in Ratchaburi.

Highlights & What to See

At the main Tao Hong Tai factory on Chedi Hak Road, visitors can explore a wide range of creative ceramic products. The factory has transitioned from traditional pottery to modern, colorful ceramic art, including tall elegant vases, ceramic stools, decorative flower pots, and whimsical dolls. The grounds serve as an open-air exhibition space filled with vibrant sculptures, making it a popular spot for photography.

For art enthusiasts, the sister site Tao Hong Tai : d Kunst on Woradech Road is a must-visit. This two-story Manila-style Thai house with an open basement serves as a contemporary art gallery and coffee shop. Located next to the Ratchaburi National Museum, it hosts rotating art exhibitions and offers a relaxing atmosphere overlooking the Mae Klong River.
