History & Significance
Prang Ku Ban Khwao is a significant archaeological site located in Ban Khwao, Mueang District, Mahasarakham Province. Constructed in the 18th Buddhist century (around the 13th century CE) during the reign of King Jayavarman VII of the Khmer Empire, it served as an Arokayasala (hospital or infirmary) as part of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. The structure showcases the distinctive Bayon style of Khmer art. The Department of Fine Arts registered it as an ancient monument in two instances.
