History & Significance

Phra Phutthabat Sam Yot is an ancient historical site with a history spanning several centuries. This sacred site is deeply tied to the spiritual heritage of Lamphun, serving as a place of deep reverence for the three great Krubas (highly respected monks) of Lamphun: Kruba Chao Srivichai, Kruba Apichai Khaopi, and Kruba Chaiyawongsa Phatthana. It is also home to the last remaining Lanna-style Maha Ut Viharn in Lamphun Province.

Highlights & What to See

The site features several unique architectural and religious elements, including a replica of the Buddha's footprint, a sacred well, an open-air viharn, and the historic Lanna-style Maha Ut Viharn. On the mountain peaks, three distinct chedis have been constructed to honor the three great monks:

  • First Chedi: Located on the eastern peak, built to worship Kruba Chao Srivichai.
  • Second Chedi: Located on the middle peak, this pure white chedi is dedicated to Kruba Apichai Khaopi.
  • Third Chedi: Located on the western peak, this golden chedi is dedicated to Kruba Chaiyawongsa Phatthana.

There are two pathways to ascend the peaks. The first path leads to the first and second chedis. The second path, starting from the side with the Reclining Buddha image, leads to the third chedi. From the top, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Ban Hong District and experience a beautiful sea of mist during the winter season.
