关于此景点

Overview

The Phatthalung Governor's Palace, also known as the "Old and New Mansions," is located on Amphai Aphirak Road in Tambon Lampam, Mueang District, Phatthalung Province, approximately 6 kilometers from the city center. Historically, this grand complex functioned as both the administrative hub and the residence for the governors of Phatthalung, reflecting its former prestige and architectural beauty. Today, it stands as a vital historical tourist attraction for the province.

The Mansions

The palace complex is divided into two main parts: the "Old Mansion" and the "New Mansion." The "Old Mansion" was constructed during the early Rattanakosin period under the governorship of Phraya Phatthalung (Noi Chantarotwong). The "New Mansion," situated to the south adjacent to the Lampam canal, was built in 1889 by Phraya Aphai Borirak Chakrawichit Phiphakdi (Net Chantarotwong), the son of Phraya Phatthalung, who was the governor at the time.

Historical Significance and Architecture

The descendants of the "Chantarotwong" family have generously gifted the palace to the nation. The Fine Arts Department has officially designated the "Old Mansion" as a protected ancient monument since July 16, 1992, while the "New Mansion" received this status earlier on May 31, 1992. Visitors can admire the magnificent traditional Thai architecture, fitting for its former esteemed residents. The "Old Mansion" features a Thai house style that blends central and southern Thai architectural influences, with a distinctive twin-Thai house at its center. The "New Mansion" comprises a cluster of five traditional Thai houses, including sleeping quarters and kitchens, which are accessible for exploration. Additionally, the palace grounds boast a riverside Thai pavilion and the "Phra Phatthalung," an ancient royal barge from the reign of King Rama V.
