ตั้งอยู่บริเวณเกาะเมือง อยุธยา ตามแนวแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาทางฝั่งตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของเกาะเมือง เป็นป้อมปราการป้อมเดียวที่ยังเหลืออยู่จาก 16 ป้อม และเป็นป้อมปราการที่อยู่ในจุดยุทธศาสตร์ที่สำคัญที่สุดในการป้องกันข้าศึกของอยุธยาที่จะเข้ามาทางแม่น้ำ เพราะตั้งอยู่ทางปากน้ำ ปัจจุบันได้รับการบูรณะจากกรมศิลปากร และยังคงสภาพสมบูรณ์
