History & Significance

Lam Nam Nan National Park was officially declared a national park on September 30, 1998. Spanning an area of approximately 999 square kilometers (about 624,468 rai), the park covers districts in both Uttaradit and Phrae provinces, including Nam Pat, Tha Pla, Ban Khok, and Mueang Phrae. It serves as a vital watershed, feeding the Yom River in Phrae and various tributaries of the Nan River in Uttaradit, which flow directly into the reservoir above the Sirikit Dam.

Highlights & What to See

The park features a rugged mountainous landscape with several notable peaks, the highest being Phu Phaya Pho at 1,350 meters above sea level, which marks the boundary between Phrae and Uttaradit. Other key highlights include:

  • Sirikit Dam Reservoir: A vast reservoir dotted with numerous islands, perfect for scenic rafting and boat tours.
  • Kaeng Nang Phraya: Beautiful rocky rapids along the Nang Phraya River that flow throughout the year.
  • Freshwater Aquarium: Open from 08:00 to 17:00, this facility showcases various freshwater fish species, such as the Indonesian barb and giant snakehead.
  • Waterfalls: Small but scenic waterfalls like Namtok Choeng Thong, Namtok Huai Mun, and Namtok Doi Pha Mok flow year-round thanks to the healthy watershed.
  • Miang (Tea) Plantations: Located in the Mueang Phrae district section of the park, offering a glimpse into local agricultural practices.
