Ko Thepho (Koh Thepho)

History & Significance

Ko Thepho was originally a peninsula separating the Chao Phraya River and the Sakaekrang River, which meet at its southern tip. To support the Sakaekrang River during the dry season, a canal was excavated in the north to channel water from the Chao Phraya River, effectively turning the land into the largest freshwater island in Thailand. Located in Mueang Uthai Thani, it represents a unique ecological and agricultural community preserved amidst flowing waters.

The island is highly popular among tourists for bicycle touring due to its quiet, shady, and scenic paths. Visitors can ride through beautiful bamboo forests, vast cornfields, and lush green paddy fields. Another key highlight is the suspension bridge that connects the local municipal fresh market to Wat Uposatharam, offering a picturesque crossing and a glimpse into local riverside life.

Visitor Information

Ko Thepho is open daily to visitors, and there is no admission fee. It is highly recommended to rent a bicycle to explore the island's scenic loop at a leisurely pace. Please respect the local community and environment during your visit.

How to Get There

The island is located in Tambon Sakaekrang, Amphoe Mueang Uthai Thani, Uthai Thani Province. Visitors can access the island via the suspension bridge that connects the municipal fresh market with Wat Uposatharam, or travel by road from the mainland.
