Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum

History & Significance

The Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum was established by Mr. Panasin Dhanabadeesakul, a second-generation heir, to preserve the legacy of his father, "Apa Yi" (Sim Yu) Sae-Chin. Sim Yu Sae-Chin was the pioneer who discovered kaolin clay in Lampang and founded the province's very first ceramic factory. Historically, rooster bowls originated over a century ago with the Hakka people in Guangdong Province, China. Around 1957, Chinese ceramicists relocated to Lampang due to the abundance of high-quality kaolin clay in Chae Hom District. Today, the rooster bowl is registered as a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Lampang, and this museum stands as a testament to this rich heritage, having received the prestigious Hall of Fame award at the 14th Thailand Tourism Awards in 2023.

Highlights & What to See

Inside the museum, visitors can explore a variety of unique and rare exhibits. Key highlights include the world's smallest rooster bowl, a real gold rooster bowl, delicate thin rooster bowls, and the historic ancient dragon kiln. The museum also houses Thailand's first dessert cup factory. Visitors can watch live demonstrations of traditional rooster bowl hand-painting and modern ceramic production processes. For a hands-on experience, the museum offers a popular workshop where you can paint your own custom designs on ceramic cups, bowls, or mugs.

Visitor Information

The museum is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00. Admission fees are 60 THB for Thai adults, 30 THB for students, and 100 THB for foreign visitors. Admission is free for seniors, children under 13 years old, disabled individuals, and members of the clergy. Facilities include on-site parking.

Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum is located on Wat Chong Kham Road, Phrabat Subdistrict, Lampang. Visitors can easily reach the museum by local transport or private car, with parking available on-site.
