History & Significance

The Ang Thong City Pillar Shrine is a deeply respected spiritual landmark for the local people of Ang Thong Province. During its construction, a sacred worship ceremony was performed by royal astrologers from the Bureau of the Royal Household before cutting the auspicious wood used for the city pillar. This shrine holds a special place in Thai architectural history as the second city pillar shrine in the country to feature interior murals, following the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine.

Highlights & What to See

The shrine is built as a Chaturamuk (four-porched) building raised 1.5 meters from the ground, featuring a striking red-painted cement prang spire roof. Inside, visitors can admire the highly detailed and beautiful "Phum Khao Bin Kan Yaeng" mural patterns painted on all four walls. Surrounding the main shrine, there is a Tri-Muk pavilion on the north side, which serves as a seating area for presiding officers or for hosting various official ceremonies. On the south side, there are two traditional Thai-style pavilions where visitors can acquire sacred amulets, flowers, incense, and candles for worship.

Visitor Information

Admission to the Ang Thong City Pillar Shrine is free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to dress respectfully when entering the shrine grounds to pay their respects. Flowers, incense, and candles can be obtained at the Thai-style pavilions on the south side of the complex.
