Wat Ratchapaksi (Wat Nok)

History & Significance

Wat Ratchapaksi, also affectionately called Wat Nok by locals, is an ancient temple with deep historical roots. Located in Pho Sa Subdistrict, Mueang District of Ang Thong Province, the temple stands as a testament to the region's long-standing spiritual devotion. It is home to a highly revered reclining Buddha image from the Ayutthaya era, which was once heavily deteriorated but has since been beautifully restored. Additionally, the temple houses 'Phra Rod Wachiramoli', an important Buddha image constructed around 1620 AD (B.E. 2163) during the reign of King Songtham of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

The primary highlight of Wat Ratchapaksi is the giant reclining Buddha image. This ancient statue has been carefully restored to its former glory, allowing visitors to appreciate its classic Ayutthaya-style craftsmanship. Another must-see sacred object is 'Phra Rod Wachiramoli', a historic Buddha image dating back over four centuries to the reign of King Songtham. The temple's scenic location on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River also offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for quiet reflection and taking in the riverside views.

Visitor Information

Wat Ratchapaksi is open daily to visitors from 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM. Admission to the temple is free of charge. As with all sacred Buddhist sites in Thailand, visitors are kindly requested to dress respectfully, covering their shoulders and knees. How to Get There

The temple is located on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in Pho Sa Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong Province. It is easily accessible by private car or local transport from Ang Thong city center. On-site parking is available for visitors traveling by personal vehicle.
