History & Significance

Wat Phra That Chom Thong is located on Doi Chom Thong, directly opposite Wat Si Khom Kham in Mueang Phayao District. The temple is famous for enshrining holy hair relics of the Buddha inside its principal pagoda, making it an important spiritual landmark for local worshipers and visitors in Northern Thailand.

Highlights & What to See

The main highlight of the temple is the 30-meter-high Lanna-style chedi topped with a golden umbrella, reminiscent of Phra That Hariphunchai in Lamphun Province. The base of the chedi is decorated with sheet metal embossed with intricate 12 zodiac motifs. Another significant structure is the open-sided Viharn, measuring 8 meters wide and 20 meters long, which houses a sandstone Buddha image on a chukchi base. Additionally, visitors can experience the 200-meter skywalk, offering magnificent panoramic views over Kwan Phayao (Phayao Lake) and Phayao city within a surrounding lush arboretum.

Visitor Information

The temple is open daily to visitors from 07:00 to 18:30. Admission is free of charge, and parking facilities are available on-site.
