Koh Khai Islands

Koh Khai Islands

Koh Khai is located in the Pru Nai Subdistrict, southwest of Koh Yao Yai. It consists of 3 small private islands: Koh Khai Nai, Koh Khai Nui, and Koh Khai Nok. The name "Koh Khai" (Egg Island) comes from its small size, resembling a "fried egg" floating in the middle of the sea, situated between Koh Sireh (Phuket) and Koh Yao Yai (Phang Nga). It is a popular destination for tourists from Phuket, offering clear waters, beautiful coral reefs, and convenient, safe travel taking only 15 minutes.

เกี่ยวกับสถานที่นี้

Main activities include strolling along the beach, snorkeling to see coral reefs, and taking photos with uniquely eroded rock formations. As these are small islands in the middle of the sea, there are no large shade trees, accommodations, fresh water, electricity, or even phone signal, making them suitable for single-day trips. Koh Khai Nai is also known as "Cat Egg Island" because many cats, brought by locals and having bred extensively, now number over 80. They roam the shops and beaches, much to the delight of tourists. The white sandy beach is approximately 500 meters long, perfect for walking along the entire northern and western coastlines. The eastern side features rocks eroded by wind and sea into natural sculptures, such as a rock shaped like an elephant's head and three turtles. This area is a stunning spot for photography. Beneath the clear blue water, hundreds of Picasso triggerfish swim in schools. The best spot for swimming is around the rocky area to the south, but caution is advised as the rocks are slippery and sharp, posing a potential hazard. There are shallow coral reefs and various colorful fish. The island offers many activities, including banana boat rides and jet skiing. There are also shops selling food and drinks, with seating areas for lunch. Umbrellas and beach chairs are available for rent to provide shade during the day. Koh Khai Nui is adjacent to Koh Khai Nai, a 10-minute boat ride away. It is a popular spot for tourists to swim and snorkel among shallow coral reefs and colorful fish around the rocky areas. The land area is about 2 rai (approx. 0.8 acres) with only small beaches, so landing on the island is not possible. Furthermore, rocks and sea urchins are scattered around the island, requiring extra care when swimming. You should enter the water from the stern of a boat anchored offshore. Koh Khai Nok, from a distance, is distinctively shaped with a smooth, white, convex center, surrounded by increasingly deeper shades of blue water, earning it the nickname "Fried Egg in the Middle of the Sea." This island is the most popular among tourists because it is peaceful, with nature having recovered to its former abundance. The fine white sand contrasts beautifully with the clear turquoise water. Especially during low tide, eroded rock formations with unique shapes become visible. Climbing the 80-meter hill offers a stunning panoramic view of the sea from above, the island's most beautiful viewpoint. Below, small sandbars connect to rock formations. A white sandy beach is located at the front, with schools of small fish swimming near the shore. This area is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and photographing colorful fish among the coral reefs. Activities like jet skiing and kayaking are available, or you can rent a lifebuoy for water play. The island also has shops selling food and drinks, with numerous beach umbrellas and loungers available for rent. Getting There: - From Phang Nga: You can rent a longtail boat from Lho Jak Pier, Pak Khlong Pier on Koh Yao Yai, and Ma Neh Pier on Koh Yao Noi. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Boats can be arranged through your accommodation or the local tourism association on the island. - From Phuket: The Koh Khai Islands are about 14 kilometers from Phuket. Speedboat rides take only 15 minutes from Rassada Pier, Laem Hin Pier, Ao Chalong Pier, or Bang Rong Pier.
