Emerald Pool (Sa Morakot)

History & Significance

The Emerald Pool is located within the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary in the Khlong Thom Nuea subdistrict of Krabi. This area is famous for its rich biodiversity and is the natural habitat of the Gurney's Pitta, an extremely rare and endangered bird species in Thailand. The pool itself is fed by natural warm streams originating from the southern lowland forests, making it a unique ecological wonder.

Highlights & What to See

The site features three distinct natural pools connected by a scenic 1,400-meter nature trail:

• Sa Morakot (Emerald Pool): The main attraction, featuring warm, emerald-green water with temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius. Visitors are allowed to swim in this pool, which is surrounded by a shady, lush forest.
• Sa Kaew (Glass Pool): A crystal-clear pool fed by water flowing from the Emerald Pool. Swimming is not allowed in this pool to preserve its natural state.
• Sa Nam Phut (Blue Pool): Located about 600 meters further inside from the Emerald Pool, this is the actual source of the spring. It is famous for its vibrant, clear blue water that bubbles up naturally from the ground. Swimming is strictly prohibited here.

Visitor Information

The Emerald Pool is open daily from 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM. Facilities include parking and restrooms. The admission fees are as follows:

• Thai Citizens: Adults 30 THB, Children 20 THB
• Foreign Visitors: Adults 400 THB, Children 200 THB

How to Get There

The Emerald Pool is situated in the Khao Phra-Bang Khram Wildlife Sanctuary, Khlong Thom Nuea, Krabi. Visitors can travel by car or local transport from Krabi town towards Khlong Thom district to reach the sanctuary entrance.
