Chulabhorn Dam (Nam Phrom Dam)

Chulabhorn Dam, also known as Nam Phrom Dam, is located in Thung Luilai Subdistrict, built to block the Nam Phrom River on the Khun Phai mountain range in an area called "Phu Yuak". It is a rockfill dam with a compacted clay core, reinforced with rock and gravel. The dam crest is 700 meters long, 70 meters high from the foundation, and 8 meters wide. It is a multi-purpose dam under the supervision of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), used for electricity generation and irrigation benefits. Additionally, the reservoir is a freshwater fish breeding ground. The surrounding area of the dam offers beautiful scenery and a cool climate year-round. Within the dam, there are accommodations, restaurants, boat tours of the reservoir, a cool-weather plant experimental center, and an astronomical observatory. Points of interest within Chulabhorn Dam include: - Replica of Phra Phuttha Siri Sattaratcha (Luang Pho Jet Kasat) enshrined at the left abutment, opposite the Chulabhorn Dam Garden. - Chulabhorn Dam Garden: An area of approximately 41 rai, it is a conserved forest garden featuring various types of wild plants. It includes a Phrom Phisai Pavilion for relaxation, and the pathways within the garden are paved with natural stones. - Ancient Plants (325 million years old): Grass-like plants of two varieties: horsetail pine and horsetail. - Khuan Lagoon Viewpoint Pavilion: A scenic viewpoint located at an altitude of over 800 meters above sea level. - Lakeside Lawn next to the Royal Residence: A peaceful and shady atmosphere offering views of the dam crest and the surrounding reservoir scenery.
