The market is run by the local Thai Yuan community, whose ancestors migrated from Chiang Saen to settle along the Pasak River more than 200 years ago. To this day, the community has proudly preserved its unique northern-style customs, language, and traditions. Highlighting its cultural value and community-driven tourism, the market received the prestigious Thailand Tourism Awards (Outstanding Tourism Community) from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in both 2007 and 2008.

The market features a shady, peaceful atmosphere decorated in a simple, traditional northern style. Visitors can browse a variety of local stalls offering unique northern-style foods and snacks, such as Kaeng Bon (elephant ear curry), Tom Proh Yod Ton Tan (palm shoot soup), Pad Mee Tai Yuan (locally known as Mee Chae), herbal drinks, Khai Pam (grilled seasoned egg in banana leaf cups), Khanom Piang (also called Khanom Lin Ma), Khao Khaep, Khanom Gong, and Khanom Khai Pla. In addition to culinary delights, the market offers local hand-woven fabrics, traditional clothing, and sarongs.
