Ban Khok Mo Local Weaving Center (Ban Khok Mo Traditional Weaving Community)

History & Significance

The Ban Khok Mo Local Weaving Center is located in Thap Than Subdistrict, Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province. The residents of Ban Khok Mo are descendants of the Lao Krang ethnic group who migrated from Vientiane during the early Rattanakosin period. They have preserved and passed down their traditional weaving techniques as a cultural heritage for over 200 years.

Highlights & What to See

After the rice harvesting season, the village women dedicate their time to weaving beautiful textiles. The highlights of Ban Khok Mo's textiles include "Pha Mat Mi To Tin Chok" (ikat fabric with a decorative hem) and "Pha Yok Dok Lai Choeng Baep Kao" (brocade fabric with traditional border patterns). The fabrics feature ancient and intricate patterns such as "Lai Dan Mueang Lao", "Lai Nak" (naga pattern), and "Lai Dan Yai". In addition to these traditional silk and cotton fabrics, the community also weaves cotton loincloths (Pha Khao Ma), sarongs (Pha Sin), and daily clothing for household use and sale.
