Wat Phu Khao Thong

このアトラクションについて

Located in Phu Khao Thong subdistrict, approximately 2 kilometers from the Royal Palace, Wat Phu Khao Thong is mentioned in the book "Kham Hai Kan Chao Krung Kao" (Testimonies of the Old Capital). "King Bayinnaung of Pegu built the main stupa in 1569 AD in a tall, Mon style, as a memento of his victory over Thailand." Later, when King Naresuan the Great regained independence for the Kingdom of Ayutthaya and declared it, in 1584 AD, he ordered the construction of an Ayutthaya-style stupa. He commanded the removal of the upper part of the original main stupa for a major restoration, and built a lotus-bud-shaped stupa, popular in that era, on the original base of the main stupa. Thus, only the lower part of the Mon-made base remains. Currently, the Fine Arts Department has constructed a monument of King Naresuan the Great on horseback in front of Wat Phu Khao Thong for public devotion. Additionally, on the side, there is a large reservoir (Monkey Cheek Project), based on the royal initiative of King Rama IX, to alleviate the suffering of the Thai people during the flood season and to ensure a continuous water supply throughout the year. Open for visits from 07:00 to 17:00.
