History and Significance

Wat Bot, or Wat Luang Pho To Yai, is situated in Bang Krabue, Sam Khok District, Pathum Thani. Established in 1621 by Mon people who migrated from Hongsawadee (Bago, Myanmar), it was originally known as Wat Soi Nang Hong, reflecting the name of their ancestral village. A distinctive swan pillar, a symbol of Hongsawadee, once marked its presence. This ancient temple, dating back to the Ayutthaya period, belongs to the Thammayut Nikaya sect and stands gracefully along the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, attracting visitors by both land and water.

Highlights & Sacred Relics

• Luang Pho To Yai: The temple is renowned for its colossal statue of Somdet Phra Phutthachan To Phromrangsi, known affectionately as Luang Pho To, depicted in a preaching posture. This impressive statue is a prominent feature and a popular photo spot.
• Luang Pho Luea: Discover the sacred Luang Pho Luea, a revered Maravijaya Buddha image crafted from sandstone. Originally, there were 12 such statues, but after an attempted theft in 1964 where most were decapitated, Luang Pho Luea was the only one spared, hence its name, meaning 'The Remaining Buddha'. It is considered a guardian of Pathum Thani.
• Ancient Artifacts: Explore the main Buddha images within the ordination hall, exquisite slate boundary markers (sema) from the early Ayutthaya period, and Ratanakosin-era Dharma scriptures and ornate pulpits.
• Other Shrines: The temple grounds also house the large Luang Pho Phutthasothon, a shrine dedicated to Thao Chatukham Rammathep, a shrine for Phra Sivali, and a statue of Luang Pu Thuat.
