History & Significance

Tham Phet - Tham Thong Forest Park was officially established on January 10, 1997. Located in the forest area of Khao Chon Duea and Khao Khwang, spanning Takhli and Tak Fa districts in Nakhon Sawan Province, it represents the southernmost tip of the Phetchabun mountain range bordering the Pa Sak River. The area is characterized by isolated limestone mountains surrounded by agricultural plains, preserving a rich ecosystem of mixed deciduous forest and diverse plant species.

Highlights & What to See

The park is home to approximately 70 limestone caves, with several open to the public, each offering unique geological formations:

  • Tham Daowadung: Features a massive hall that can accommodate 400 to 500 people, complete with a natural ventilation hole at the top.
  • Tham Prakai Phet: A 50-meter-deep cave with 5 large halls showcasing stalactites and stalagmites shaped like dolphins and the Great Wall of China.
  • Tham Pradap Phet: Contains 4 halls filled with light brown to creamy white stalactites and stalagmites that sparkle brilliantly like diamonds under light.
  • Tham Wang Khaimuk: Features 3 halls decorated with diamond-like scales that glisten like a palace, accessible via a dedicated staircase.
  • Other notable caves include Tham Chao Pho Suea, Tham Wiman Loi, and Tham Maha Phothi Thong.

Beyond the caves, visitors can explore Mo Hin Fa, a natural coral rock terrace eroded by wind and rain into sharp, deep grooves. A 1.2-kilometer nature trail leads to the Pha Chom Phu Viewpoint, standing 345 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of Takhli market and the Khao Khwang mountain range. The park also features ancient pottery with various patterns, caveman-era utensils, and the giant Kamlang Hanuman (Sphenodesme pentandra) medicinal herb with a trunk size of 139 centimeters.
