History & Significance

The Phraya Phichai Dap Hak Birthplace Museum is dedicated to Phraya Phichai, a legendary noble and general from the late Ayutthaya and Thonburi periods. Born in 1741 as 'Joi' in Ban Huai Kha, he later changed his name to 'Thong Dee' (also known as Thong Dee Fan Khao). He was highly skilled in Muay Thai boxing and sword fighting, eventually becoming one of the 'Four Tigers'—the closest trusted generals of King Taksin the Great. He played a vital role in restoring Thai independence after the second fall of Ayutthaya. He earned the title 'Phraya Phichai Dap Hak' (Phraya Phichai of the Broken Sword) during a fierce battle to defend the city of Phichai, where he fought courageously with two swords until one broke, yet still managed to secure victory.
