History & Significance

Namtok Sam Lan National Park, previously named Phra Phutthachai National Park, covers an area of approximately 44.57 square kilometers (27,856.25 rai) across four districts in Saraburi: Kaeng Khoi, Nong Khae, Wihan Daeng, and Mueang Saraburi. The park is highly valued for its rich forest ecosystem and serves as an important watershed that feeds local agricultural lands. Its proximity to Bangkok makes it a highly popular destination for one-day trips and weekend getaways.

Highlights & What to See

The park offers several natural attractions and scenic viewpoints for visitors to explore:

• Namtok Sam Lan (Sam Lan Waterfall): Located about 500 meters from the visitor center, this is the park's largest waterfall. It features water flowing over a wide rocky terrace, cascading down three distinct tiers resembling a staircase. Visitors can swim in its pools. The waterfall is at its most beautiful from late September to late October, while it may dry up completely during the hot season from February to April.
• Khao Ruak Reservoir: Situated near the visitor center, this reservoir is a prime spot for sightseeing and camping. Early morning visitors can witness a stunning view of mist floating over the water's surface, illuminated by the rising sun.
• Khao Krok Viewpoint: The highest peak in the park, standing at approximately 329 meters above sea level. From the summit, visitors can enjoy a clear, panoramic view of Saraburi city and its surrounding districts.
• Flora and Fauna: The park is home to mixed deciduous and deciduous dipterocarp forests with over 800 plant species, including valuable trees like Daeng, Pradu, and Takhian Thong. Wildlife includes small animals such as pheasants, wild chickens, barking deer, lesser mouse-deer, monkeys, wild boars, and squirrels.

Visitor Information

The park is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00. Facilities near the park headquarters include a visitor center, bungalows, campsites, tent rental services, welfare shops, parking, and restrooms. The climate consists of three seasons: a hot summer (February to April), a rainy season (May to September), and a cool, comfortable winter (October to January) with an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.
