Koh Mak
Slow Life Experience @ Koh Mak, Phatthalung Province, one of the 25 Unseen New Series tourist destinations by TAT.
このアトラクションについて
It is an island in Songkhla Lake, located in the southeast of Phatthalung Province. There is a concrete bridge connecting Koh Mak and the mainland, approximately 500 meters long.
History of Koh Mak, Phatthalung
Archaeological evidence suggests that Koh Mak was once inhabited by prehistoric humans, as over a hundred ancient stone axes have been excavated. This area was also once a city (around the 6th Buddhist century or approximately 501-600 AD) named "Seng Ji". It was a prosperous city for trade and a maritime transportation hub at that time.
Currently, the majority of the population on Koh Mak engage in rubber farming and local fishing. There is also a growing trend of community-based tourism, creating and distributing income in the area.
The renowned economic aquatic animal on Koh Mak is "Sam Nam Prawns", which are giant freshwater prawns that grow naturally in Songkhla Lake in the areas of Koh Mak and Pak Phayun District. The water conditions in this part of Songkhla Lake have 3 characteristics: freshwater, brackish water, and saltwater. This allows the giant freshwater prawns that grow here to have dense flesh and a uniquely delicious taste.
