History & Significance

In 1960, King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit visited Denmark and took a deep interest in Danish dairy farming. This led to a technical cooperation agreement signed on October 20, 1961, with Denmark providing 4.33 million kroner (approximately 23.5 million baht). Prior to this, Mr. Sondergaard, a Danish expert, established the dairy farm and training center in Muak Lek, Saraburi, in January 1961. On January 16, 1962, King Rama IX and King Frederik IX of Denmark officially opened the Thai-Denmark Dairy Farm. In 1971, the farm was transferred to the Thai government as a state enterprise under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, named the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand (DPO). January 17 of every year is celebrated as National Dairy Cow Day to commemorate this historic partnership.

Highlights & What to See

The farm offers guided tram tours (6 rounds per day) that stop at various educational stations:

  • Station 1: Animal feeding, where visitors can feed camels and ostriches.
  • Station 2: A multimedia presentation on the organization's history, followed by demonstrations of cow milking and calf feeding.
  • Station 3: A demonstration of cow lassoing techniques.
