ตั้งอยู่ทางฝั่งเหนือของสะพานข้ามแม่น้ำวัง บริเวณสะพานเขลางค์ ถนนราษฎร์พัฒนา เป็นชุมชนเก่าแก่ของเมือง

เมื่อลำปางคือเมืองไม้ และครั้งหนึ่งของลำปางเคยรุ่งเรืองจากกิจการค้าไม้ซึ่งทำให้มีผู้คนหลากหลาย สัญชาติเดินทางเข้ามามากมาย รวมทั้งชาวพม่าที่เข้ามาทำกิจการไม้สักร่วมกับชาวอังกฤษในลำปางสมัยนั้นด้วย พวกเขาได้สร้างชุมชนขึ้น ณ บริเวณนี้และกลายเป็นชุมชนที่เต็มไปด้วยบ้านไม้สวยงามมากมาย กระทั่งถึงปัจจุบัน แม้ชุมชนท่ามะโอไม่มีชาวพม่าอีกแล้ว แต่ชุมชนเก่าแก่แห่งนี้ยังคงมีเงาอดีตน่าประทับใจ ผ่านเรือนไม้สักทรงคุณค่าหนึ่งในนั้นคือบ้านเสานัก เรือนไม้ที่โด่งดังของจังหวัดลำปาง ก็ตั้งอยู่ในชุมชนแห่งนี้
