Wat Nakhon Nuan Ket (Wat Ton Tan)

Wat Nakhon Nuan Ket (Wat Ton Tan)

About this Place

Wat Nakhon Nuan Ket, originally named Wat Ton Tan, was established in 2430 B.E. (1887 C.E.) by Mr. Chandra, Mrs. Sap, and Mr. Jaem Promsuwan. Later, during the reign of King Rama V, His Majesty had the idea to excavate the Saen Saep canal from Bangkok to Chachoengsao province. The excavation route ended exactly at the location of Wat Ton Tan, and His Majesty named this canal Khlong Nakhon Nuan Ket, meaning the boundary of the capital city. The temple then changed its name to Wat Nakhon Nuan Ket accordingly. The first ordination hall was built in 2434 B.E. (1891 C.E.), which the temple currently preserves and has restored as an ancient monument. The second ordination hall, made of terracotta tiles, was designed by Phra Khru Sunthorn Wattanawithan (Jang Uchujaro) and constructed in 2539 B.E. (1996 C.E.). Currently, this terracotta tiled ordination hall is a tourist attraction that receives significant attention from visitors.
