Wat Mahayong

Located in the Hantra subdistrict, east of the city. It was originally a royal temple but became a deserted temple after the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767. This temple has an interesting history because it reflects the spiritual prosperity of those involved in the construction and maintenance of this temple for hundreds of years. Currently, the Fine Arts Department has registered Wat Mahayong as a national artifact and ancient site since March 8, 1941. According to the Northern Chronicles, Queen Kalyani, the consort of King Thammaracha, the 8th king of Ayutthaya, was the builder of Wat Mahayong. Wat Mahayong was renovated and repaired after the loss of Ayutthaya's independence, becoming a new temple and a place for meditation. In addition, there is an old Ubosot or ancient site, situated on a double-tiered base, quite large compared to other ancient sites.
