ประกอบด้วยเกาะต่าง ๆ จำนวน 52 เกาะ เช่น เกาะช้าง เกาะคลุ้ม เกาะเหลายาใน เกาะง่าม เกาะไม้ซี้ใหญ่ เกาะหวาย เกาะรัง เป็นต้น หมู่เกาะช้างได้รับอิทธิพลจากลมมรสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ในเดือนพฤษภาคม-ตุลาคม ชายฝั่งด้านตะวันตกมีคลื่นลมแรง ไม่เหมาะแก่การเดินทางท่องเที่ยว แต่ในเดือนพฤศจิกายน-เมษายน คลื่นลมสงบ ธรรมชาติบนบกและท้องทะเลจะสวยงามที่สุด
