อุโมงค์ขุนตาล เป็นอุโมงค์หินแกรนิตที่ควบคุมการขุดเจาะโดยวิศวกรชาวเยอรมัน เริ่มดำเนินการเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2450 ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5 และเสร็จสิ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2461 เป็นการเปิดเส้นทางคมนาคมทางรถไฟสู่ภาคเหนือครั้งสำคัญ อุโมงค์นี้ขุดทะลุภูเขาบริเวณใจกลางอุทยานแห่งชาติขุนตาล ระหว่างจังหวัดลำปางและลำพูน เป็นอุโมงค์รถไฟที่ยาวที่สุดในประเทศไทย โดยมีระยะทาง 1,352 เมตร รถไฟใช้เวลาวิ่งผ่าน 5 นาที ถัดจากอุโมงค์รถไฟไปทางที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ประมาณ 1 กิโลเมตร มีพลับพลารัชกาลที่ 5 เมื่อครั้งเสด็จฯ มาดอยขุนตาล
