Phetchaburi Riverside Old Town Community (Khlong Krachaeng)

History & Significance

The Phetchaburi Riverside Old Town Community is a historic settlement located on the west bank of the Phetchaburi River. The area is formed by three connected neighborhoods: Wat Ko Community, Waterfront Market Alley Community, and Khlong Krachaeng Community. The name 'Khlong Krachaeng' originates from 'Krachaeng', which refers to traditional bamboo boat roofs produced by the local community in the past.

The Phetchaburi River flowing through this area has a rich history, with ancient bronze pots dating back to the Dvaravati period (approximately 1,500 years ago) discovered in its bed. Historically, the riverbank was also a hub for palm jaggery trade, using specialized containers before the introduction of railways during the reign of King Rama V.

Visitor Information

The community is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00. Admission is free of charge. Visitors are recommended to wear respectful clothing when visiting local religious temples and shrines within the community.

How to Get There

Located at 82 Khlong Krachaeng Road, Mueang Phetchaburi District, Phetchaburi Province. The community stretches along the west bank of the Phetchaburi River, situated east of Khao Mahai Sawan (location of Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park).
