History & Significance

Khlong Sok is a vital waterway in Surat Thani Province, originating from the high mountains and fertile forests of Khao Sok National Park. It flows through Phanom, Ban Ta Khun, and Khiri Rat Nikhom districts before merging into the Phum Duang River (Khiri Rat River), eventually joining the Tapi River and emptying into the Gulf of Thailand. The river has long been the lifeblood of the local communities and has now become a key destination for eco-tourism.

The most scenic stretch of Khlong Sok runs through Khlong Sok Subdistrict in Phanom District, where the natural landscape remains exceptionally pristine. The bamboo rafting journey covers a distance of approximately 3 kilometers and takes about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on how long visitors stop to swim or take photos. Each bamboo raft typically accommodates 2 passengers and is steered by a local guide who acts as a navigator and storyteller, pointing out various plants and wild animals along the riverbanks.

In addition to bamboo rafting, visitors can also enjoy tubing and canoeing offered by various local private operators.
