Ban Na Chueak Natural Dye Weaving Community Enterprise

History & Significance

The Ban Na Chueak community is located adjacent to the Nam Un Dam in Sakon Nakhon Province. The villagers' primary occupations are agriculture and livestock farming, particularly raising cattle and buffaloes. With an abundance of natural buffalo dung around the village, the community creatively developed a method to use it as a key raw material for dyeing fabric. This innovative and eco-friendly process yields a unique greenish-brown tone, which is then crafted into various high-quality products to generate sustainable income for the local households.

Highlights & What to See

The main highlight is learning the fascinating process of making buffalo dung dyed fabric. The community transforms this fabric into beautiful products such as shirts, bags, keychains, hats, and scarves. Beyond the crafts, visitors can enjoy community-based tourism activities, including taking a scenic boat ride on the Nam Un Dam to visit "Koh Khwai" (Buffalo Island), where hundreds of buffaloes are raised. There is also a temple located on an island in the middle of the water where visitors can pay respects. Other unique local experiences include a hot pan spa, herbal massages, watching the traditional buffalo welcoming dance, and savoring local cuisine.

Visitor Information

The community enterprise is open daily. From Monday to Friday and on Sundays, it is open from 08:00 to 17:00. On Saturdays, it is open from 07:00 to 17:00. There is no admission fee to enter the village, but fees apply for workshops, boat tours, spa treatments, and homestay accommodations. How to Get There

The community is situated in Tambon Rae, Sakon Nakhon Province, near the Nam Un Dam. Visitors can travel by local transport or private vehicle to the village to participate in the community activities and enjoy a homestay experience.
